Dr. Chao believes in the importance of service to those in need and giving back to his profession. Domestically, he has served in leadership positions in professional organizations including the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), and has mentored numerous faculty, trainees, and students. Internationally, he has undertaken charitable work to treat patients and train local surgeons in underserved communities, including in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East.
